HC Deb 07 November 1973 vol 863 c181W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry by what means it is estimated that £320 million has been saved in price increases since the Price Commission started work in April.

Sir G. Howe

The figure is derived from the difference between the price increases notified and the price increases approved by the Price Commission for the cases dealt with in the period up to the end of August. Details are given in paragraphs 3.4 to 3.6 of the Price Commission's Second Quarterly Report (House of Commons Paper 489). The figure given in this report is £316 million.
