§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the next stage of EEC economic monetary union; and if he will seek to ensure that this stage is not begun until Parliaments in the member States have been able to debate the matter.
Mr. NonThe summit communiqué October 1972—published as Cmnd. 5109—provides for the transition to the second stage of economic and monetary union on 1st January 1974. As I have told hon. Members before, this Parliament will have the usual opportunities to discuss any proposals as they arise.
