TABLE 2 Number of months before first art/design activity (as defined by leaver) No 'O' or 'A' level passes before entry to first art/design course Percentage 1 or 2 'O' level passes before entry to first art/design course Percentage 5 or more 'O' level passes before entry to first art/design course Percentage None 36 31 25 1–3 34 38 50 4–6 6 10 7 7–12 6 7 4 13 or more 4 2 4 No art/design activity obtained 14 12 10 Not known less than 1 — less than 1 Notes on Tables 1 and 2:
- i CSE Grade I passes have been included as 'O' level passes.
- ii. No account has been taken of 'A' level passes held by leavers with 'O' level passes.
- iii. The percentages are of the number of leavers in each group who replied at the postal stage of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys enquiry. Where percentage figures in a column do not add exactly to 100, this is due to rounding.
- iv. The survey as a whole was concerned only with leavers in the academic year 1967–68 from the final year of a full-time art or design course (excluding foundation courses) lasting 2 years or more, plus certain other postgraduate courses. Of all the leavers, 63 per cent. replied at the postal stage.
- v. For a very small group of respondents (20), the number of 'O' level passes is not known.
