§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representation he has made to the Danish authorities regarding the incident in which two Aberdeen trawlers were ordered by a Danish gunboat on Saturday to cease fishing outside the 12-mile limit off the Faroe Islands and to move to an area 16 miles off the coast.
§ Mr. James Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what communication he has had from the Danish Government regarding the extension of fishing limits from 12 miles to 16 miles in Faröese waters; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir Alec Douglas-HomeIt seems that this incident relates to certain areas around the Faroes in which line and fixed fishing gear were being used. The Danish Government have promised to provide further information; but, in the meantime, they have made it clear that the action of the Danish fishery protection boats in no way represents an attempt to extend Faröese fishing limits.
