HC Deb 21 June 1973 vol 858 c171W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has any evidence that the addition of cobalt to food and drink for human consumption is injurious to health.

Sir K. Joseph

I have been asked to reply.

Cobalt is present naturally in the diet, is an essential component of vitamin B12, and is used therapeutically. There is no evidence to suggest that the addition of cobalt to food and drink in small amounts would be injurious to health.
