HC Deb 12 June 1973 vol 857 cc270-1W
20. Mr. Duffy

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest estimate of the ratio of registered unemployed adult males to notified vacancies for adult males in Yorkshire and Humberside; and what is the corresponding figure for Great Britain.

Mr. Dudley Smith

Based on the provisional figures for May, the ratio for the Yorkshire and Humberside region was 3.9 to 1 and for Great Britain 2.7 to 1. The figures relate only to notified vacancies remaining unfilled and do not measure the total unsatisfied demand for labour.

37. Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest percentage of male unemployed in Yorkshire and Humberside; and how this compares with the national figure and with the Yorkshire and national percentages of a year ago.

Mr. Dudley Smith

On 14th May 1973 the rate of unemployment for males in the Yorkshire and Humberside region was 3.8 per cent. and in Great Britain 3.5 per cent. On 8th May 1972 the rates were 5.6 per cent. for Yorkshire and Humberside and 5.0 per cent. for Great Britain. The figures for May 1973 are provisional.
