asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the figure for the most recent date of the percentage of the working population engaged in non-industrial Government and local authority services; and how this compares with the figures for July 1964 and March 1969, respectively.

At June 1972, the latest date for which full details are available, 12.4 per cent. of the working population were engaged in the non-industrial Civil Service or local authority service; corresponding figures for June 1964 and June 1969 were 9.4 per cent. and 11.1 per cent. respectively.
