HL Deb 26 July 1973 vol 344 cc2050-1WA
LORD CLIFFORD OF CHUDLEIGH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ensure that Ideford School Hall is not sold or let before the date of Second Reading of the Endowed Schools Act (Amendment) Bill now before this House.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE (LORD SANDFORD)

The Charity Trustees in whom the site of Ideford School is vested are required by law to deal with the premises in the way most advantageous to the school foundation. Although the approval of the Secretary of State for Education and Science would be required to any sale of the school premises, such approval would have to be given in exercise of her quasi-judicial powers and she is unable to give any assurance which might prejudice the exercise of those powers in any particular case. No application has yet been received from the Trustees to give approval to the disposal of the premises.
