§ 62. Sir John Tilneyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice he issues to members of the public and to tourist agencies about obtaining inoculations against tropical diseases such as malaria and typhoid before going on holiday.
§ Sir K. JosephComprehensive information on the prevention of diseases such as malaria and typhiod is given in my Department's leaflet "Notice to Travellers—Health Protection". This is reviewed regularly in relation to the latest epidemiological information from the World Health Organisation and in the light of medical advances. The leaflet is distributed widely to travel agents, airlines and other interested organisations, and was sent to general practitioners during 1972. The availability of the leaflet is mentioned in the Passport Office publication "Essential Information" which is issued with new passports.
Currently, typhoid and paratyphoid inoculation is advised to travellers outside 538W Northern Europe or North America. The leaflet also warns against the possible danger of malaria, and mentions the methods of prevention. Earlier this year a WHO publication "Information on Malaria Risk for International Travellers" was circulated to travel agents.
