HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c538W
63. Mr. Jay

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will make a statement on the risks from lead found in the blood of those living near motorways.

Sir K. Joseph

I am advised that research has so far shown that there is no risk to health arising from lead found in the air on and around motorways. Lead in air is only minimally absorbed by human blood. The lead found in the blood of those living near motorways has probably originated from other sources.
