§ Mr. Dudley SmithA working group, on which the CBI, TUC, employers' associations and Her Majesty's Factory Inspectorate were represented, was established to consider the problem. As a first step the group has compiled a code of practice dealing with health precautions in the lead industry and this will be published in August. The code was prepared with the active co-operation of representatives of the smelting and refining and lead accumulator sections of the industry but much of it is relevant to all factories where there is a lead risk. The code advises in detail on control of dust and fumes; housekeeping and personal hygiene; environmental monitoring; respiratory protective equipment; and health education, training and joint consultation.
