Mr. Duffy

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will publish a table showing the amounts of regional development grants and selective financial assistance which have been approved under the Industry Act for Bradford, Hull, Leeds and Sheffield, with the numbers of jobs involved, including a breakdown of office jobs.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I regret the information is not readily available.

Mr. Duffy

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) how many applications for aid under the Industry Act have been received in Yorkshire and Humberside; how many offers have been

Region Number of applications received Number of offers made Value £'000 New job opportunities arising from offers
Yorkshire and Humberside 126 42 2,059 3,714
Northern 284 85 9,653 7,351
North West 261 39 4,969 3,111
The table excludes the assistance already announced for Cammell Laird and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.

Application forms in Yorkshire and Humberside are issued only after a precise project has emerged. 150 schemes are at present being discussed with potential applicants.

Mr. Duffy

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many office jobs have been created in Yorkshire and Humberside under the Industry Act; how many are the subject of negotiation; and how these figures compare with the North and North-West Regions.

Mr. Anthony Grant

Information on the number of office jobs created by the Industry Act to date is not readily available. There has been an encouraging initial response to the new incentives announced on 13th June for the transfer of mobile service projects to the assisted areas.
