HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc554-5W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people are now receiving fluoridated water in England; what is his estimate of the balance still to be served; and if he will make a statement.

Sir K. Joseph

Approximately 3½ million people are at present receiving fluoridated water in England, with some 43¾ million still to be served.

The Government believe the fluoridation of water supplies to be safe and an important preventive measure for dental health but consider that its introduction in any area should be a matter for local decision.
