HL Deb 23 July 1973 vol 344 cc1645-6WA
LORD DERWENT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to modify the arrangement whereby Members of Parliament, party political agents and local party secretaries, and their spouses, are not appointed to a Commission of the Peace if the area of the Commission and of their constituency overlap.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

In view of the much larger Commission areas which will be created when the Local Government Act comes into force in April 1974, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and I have agreed that the relevant area for disqualification can in future be the Petty Sessional Division instead of that of the Commission of the Peace, and we have arranged that this shall be so.
