§ Mrs. FennerThe welfare codes are not mandatory, but Ministry veterinary officers check on the observance of the codes during welfare inspections. They also investigate any reports of unnecessary pain or distress and give advice as necessary. They have found no evidence of pain or distress to veal calves.
