HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 c177W
38. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek powers to provide a subsidised and fortified national loaf designed to minimise the effects of high food prices on family nutrition.

Mrs. Fenner

The latest results of the National Food Survey show that the energy and nutritional content of the diet of all income groups remains substantially greater than that recommended for a healthy population by the Department of Health and Social Security. I do not, therefore, consider that a subsidised and fortified national loaf is necessary at the present time.
