HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 c193W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his policy in respect of anonymous letters received by officers in his Department relating to recipients of social security benefits.

Sir K. Joseph

Anonymous letters alleging fraud serve only to put the Department on inquiry. The practice is that no benefit is withdrawn until the facts are established independently and put to the claimant, giving him the opportunity to make any explanation he wishes.
