HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 c202W
Mr. Tope

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will allow uninterrupted fishing by the lobster fishermen from Kimmeridge within 14 miles of the coast of Tyneham in the Isle of Purbeck.

Mr. Baker

There are at present no restrictions imposed by any Department on lobster fishing off the coast at Kimmeridge. Proposed byelaws covering the Lulworth ranges danger area were advertised in the locality last September. Under these proposals fishing will be prohibited when firing is taking place. At all other times fishermen will be free to use the area. These byelaws have not yet been made.

Mr. Tope

asked the Minister of State for Defence on what authority he permits an Army launch from Lulworth Cove to prevent shipping entering a zone extending some 14 miles out to sea off the Dorset coast near Tyneham.

Mr. Blaker

Two range safety boats operate from Weymouth in order to advise vessels that they are approaching the Lulworth ranges danger area. They do not prevent vessels entering that area. The proposed byelaws will not affect the right of passage through the area of any vessel in the ordinary course of navigation.
