HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 c202W
Mr. Warren

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will discuss with the Royal Air Force and the Governments of Italy and West Germany the value of purchasing Concorde aircraft as air-to-air refuelling tankers to extend the combat effectiveness of the Phantom and multi-role combat aircraft.

Mr. Kershaw

No. Because of cost and technical problems, including the speeds and heights at which Concorde is designed to cruise, it is not suitable as a tanker aircraft.
