HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 cc175-6W
28. Mr. Ellis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will introduce legislation to make compulsory the labelling of recommended retail prices on household goods and foods.

Mrs. Fenner

Many foodstuffs are commonly sold below manufacturers' recommended prices. I am not convinced, therefore, that a general requirement to mark these prices would help the shoppers. The labelling of household goods other than foodstuffs is, of course, a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
