asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the total aid that has been provided from public funds to shipbuilding companies in the United Kingdom during the past 10 years, specifying the amount paid to companies in which the State has an investment and to the remainder.

Special assistance given direct to the shipbuilding industry by way of loans, grants and purchase of equity capital during the ten years ending 31st March 1973 is set out in the following table. The figures do not include shipbuilders relief or any any assistance given under general measures of support for industry.
