§ Dame Patricia Hornsby-Smithasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will institute an investigation into the increasing replacement of metal by plastic working components in electrical appliances, in order that assessment may be made as to whether the initial saving is offset by speedier deterioration, increasing repairs and more frequent renewal.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantPlastic components have greater insultating qualities and do not corrode, compared with their metal counterparts. There is no evidence of speedier deterioration or more frequent repairs which would justify any investigation.
