§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsFollowing my meeting with the East Suffolk and Norfolk River Authority, the two county councils and the Great Yarmouth Port and Haven Commissioners, the chairman-designate of the Anglian Water Authority has agreed to recommend to his authority the formation of a committee under Clause 6 (7) of the Water Bill to discharge the authority's functions relating to recreation and amenity on the Broads.
I am satisfied that it will be quite practicable to establish such a committee consisting of people with the necessary local knowledge and experience of the Broads and at the same time complying with the Water Bill's requirements that two-thirds of the members of such a committee must also be members of the authority. It is envisaged that the other one-third of the members would be appointed by the authority after consultation with local interests.
These arrangements should ensure that the special position of Broadland is recognised and safeguarded within the regional water authority.
