HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 cc277-8W
Mr. Edward Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the benefits he expects to realise from his recent decision to extend the principle of registration to further education teachers.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

It is in the interest of the public and the profession itself that further education teachers, like school teachers, should become fully part of the system of registration with the General Teaching Council and all that this implies for the status and discipline of the profession. Indeed the further education sector is already represented on the council, many further education teachers have chosen to register voluntarily and I am satisfied that the extension of registration to further education will be generally welcomed.
