§ Mr. Ian Lloydasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what information he has, for the years 1964–72 inclusive, showing the percentage of net disposable income after tax, spent on food for those earning average industrial earnings or less in each of the years concerned.
§ Mr. Chichester-Clarkpursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 22nd June 1973], gave the following information:
Expenditure information is only available for households and not for individuals. The information in the table below relates to households in which the head of the household was a manual worker and where the total earned income of the household was less than the average earnings of all such households headed by manual workers. The table gives the percentage of net household income (i.e. total household income after the deduction of income tax and national insurance contributions) spent on food. The information comes from the Family Expenditure Survey and is not available in this form before 1966.
