HC Deb 04 July 1973 vol 859 cc137-8W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what powers to the Home Office in January 1973 that Mr. Anthony John Seaward should receive training; and why no action was taken.

Mr. Carlisle

Yes. Arrangements have been made for Mr. Seaward to receive specialist training at the Royal Institute for the Blind Training Centre at Torquay shortly after his release.

Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if "he has studied the statement by the judge at the hearing in the Kingston Crown Court, recommending that Mr. Anthony John Seaward should be granted facilities inside prison to learn braille and to receive other facilities; and why the judge's recommendations were not implemented.

Mr. Carlisle

We have no record of any recommendation by the Crown court. Mr. Seaward was given facilities to learn braille in prison and I am informed that he has reached a very high standard.
