HL Deb 04 July 1973 vol 344 cc375-6WA
LORD INGLEWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the terms of the reopened inquiry into the proposal to construct a reservoir in or near Kielder Forest. in Northumberland, include consideration of the adjoining thinly populated area on the Scottish side of the Border.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT (BARONESS YOUNG)

My Lords, in their statement for the reopened inquiry into the applications for planning permission to construct a reservoir to be known as Kielder Water, the Northumbrian River Authority showed that they had considered a possible reservoir site in an area straddling the border between England and Scotland and known as "Deadwater/Liddel Water ". It would be open to the noble Lord or his agent to seek to make representations about this proposal at the reopened inquiry which is now being held at Newcastle upon Tyne.
