HC Deb 04 July 1973 vol 859 c151W
Mr. Judd

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the action being taken to deal with drug taking and pushing in the Royal Navy.

Mr. Buck

Offences involving the misuse of drugs in the Royal Navy are dealt with under the Naval Discipline Act.

Commanding officers have comprehensive instructions on the social, legal and medical aspects of the problem to help them detect offences and to guide their subsequent action. Some members of the regulating branch have been specially trained to assist in these duties.

To educate all personnel in the dangers of drug taking, lectures are given in Her Majesty's ships and establishments and on courses for both officers and ratings. Use is also made of commercial and Service films to illustrate the dangers and folly of drug misuse.
