asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many planning appeals he received in 1972; and what was the average time between receiving an inspector's report and the announcement of his decision on the said appeal in 1972 and to date this year.

14,408 planning appeals were received in 1972. The average time between receiving an inspector's report and issuing my right hon. and learned Friend's decision for those appeals decided in 1972 was nine weeks. The comparable time for appeals decided during the first five months of 1973 was 11 weeks.
