Mr. Bray

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the number of special environmental improvement schemes approved by his Department for the North-West Region and the total numbers for England and Wales, respectively.

6,754 projects at a total estimated cost of £17¼ million have been approved under the scheme in the North-West Region; the grant payable on these projects would be about £13 million. The comparable figures for England and Wales are 16,979 projects, £41.3 million and £33 million.
