Mr. Roseasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to improve the conditions for persons awaiting trial who are detained in custody, in respect of visits, facilities and exercise periods; and whether he will examine the question of compensation for those subsequently found to have committed no criminal offence.
§ Mr. CarlisleA number of measures have been taken to improve the conditions of unconvicted prisoners and further improvements will be made where practicable. My right hon. Friend has no plans for making compensation from public funds generally available for acquitted persons who have been in custody.
