HC Deb 14 February 1973 vol 850 c356W
Mr. John Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will consider extending legal aid to include industrial and other tribunals.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The Legal Advice and Assistance Act 1972, which it is proposed to bring into operation on 2nd April, will enable solicitors to assist persons who are to appear before tribunals with the preparation of their case. The question whether legal aid should be extended to cover representation before tribunals other than the Lands Tribunal will be reconsidered when we have had some experience of the working of the 1972 Act, and also the results of research which is now in progress.
