§ The Attorney-GeneralThere are no full-time salaried chairmen of rent tribunals. The Lord Chancellor appoints persons to rent assessment panels to serve as chairmen of rent tribunals or rent assessment committees, normally for three-year terms. The president of a rent assessment panel appoints persons on the panel to be chairmen of rent tribunals in the panel area for a specified period within the period of appointment to the panel. Chairmen of rent tribunals are paid a daily fee of £27. The appointments to the panels are terminable on one month's notice, and for misconduct or similar causes including unfitness, and are subject to the condition that the chairman resigns if he is appointed a full-time paid political agent.
