§ Mr. Sorefasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to what extent he plans to reduce overseas aid in conformity with the reduction in internal Government expenditure.
§ Mr. WoodThe Government's proposed reductions in public expenditure were included in the statement made on 17th December—[Vol. 866, c. 952–66]—by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, who also made clear that he would not hesitate to take further action at any time if developments should require it. The figures for overseas aid are set out in the White Paper on Public Expenditure (Cmnd. 5519), subject to a reduction of £6 million spread over the next three years, in accordance with the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary on 6th December—[Vol. 865, c. 1484.]
