HC Deb 03 December 1973 vol 865 c281W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will detail in the OFFICIAL REPORT the individual industrial tribunals, giving for each the number of members and the number and percentage of members who are women and indicating those chairmen who are women.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

Industrial tribunals are convened for the purpose of hearings from two national panels, one for England and Wales and the other for Scotland, to which all lay members are appointed. Lists of these members' names and addresses have been placed in the House of Commons Library and are available to Members.

The number of women on the panels has recently been substantially increased by new appointments and there are now some 150 women members, representing 11 per cent. of a total membership of approximately 1,350. There are at present only two women serving as part-time chairmen, but further appointments are planned.
