§ Mr. Dudley Smith,pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 20th November 1973 ; Vol. 864, c. 365], gave the following information :
The estimates from the New Earnings Survey 1973 of the average gross hourly earnings of full-time manual workers who were employed in catering industries and whose pay for the survey reference period in April 1973 was not affected by absence were 57.1p for men aged 21 and over and 37.8p for women aged 18 and over. The estimates relate to remuneration paid by the employer and so exclude tips received from other persons. They include the reckonable value, laid down in statutory wage regulation orders, of accommodation, meals, etc., provided for the employee by the employer.
