Mr. Carter

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what the annual receipts from insurance companies have been over each of the past 10 years as contributions or payments of costs involved in treatment by the National Health Service to road accident victims.

Income for the hospital treatment of road accident cases under Sections 212 and 213 of the Road Traffic Act 1960 is accounted for as a whole, and information to identify the amount received from insurance companies is not available centrally. Total income in National Health Service hospitals in England was as follows:
