HC Deb 09 April 1973 vol 854 cc232-3W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, before his proposed national Press and television advertising campaign regarding family income supplement, he will amend his policy which restricts payment to men whom he regards as the heads of households so that wives who are working full-time and who have sick or unemployed husbands can become eligible to draw the allowance where the family income is below the stated limits.

Mr. Dean

No. Supplementary benefit is available to a low-income family if the husband is unable to work because of illness or is unemployed and registering for full-time work.
