HC Deb 04 April 1973 vol 854 cc97-8W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representation he has received from the Ramblers' Association regarding the importance of the 2½ in. Ordnance Survey map; if, in view of the importance of these maps to other users of the countryside as well as to professional bodies, he will take steps to publicise the availability of these maps; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Graham Page

My right hon. and learned Friend has received representations from members of the Ramblers' Association about the value of the series of 2½ in. to 1 mile maps. These representations will be carefully considered when the results of the review of the requirement for these maps are avail- able. The Ramblers' Association was represented at the conference of map users on 30th March when the arrangements for this review were discussed. The Ordnance Survey has promoted the sales of mapping at this scale over the last year and is reviewing the level of promotion of all its products in the light of its new aims.
