HC Deb 02 April 1973 vol 854 c20W
Mr. George Cunningham

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the approximate number of taxpayers paying less than £15 a year and £20 a year respectively, in income tax; and what is the total number of persons paying income tax.

Mr. Nott

Counting wives who are earning, separately, about 22 million people were liable to tax for 1972–73. Of these nearly 1 million were due to pay less than £15 and nearly 1¼ million to pay less than £20.
