§ Mr. Jeffrey Archerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the words "new lettings" in the Counter-Inflation Act mean new buildings or old buildings with new lettings.
§ Mr. ChannonIf an order restricting the rent payable on new lettings were to be made under Section 11 of the Act, paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 3 to the Act provides for these words to be defined in that order. The Government have however already announced that they will not extend control to new lettings at this stage of the counter-inflation programme.
