HL Deb 22 September 1972 vol 335 c1530WA
LORD TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government :

Whether vessels passing through the Channel in fog, particularly small vessels, are required to carry radar reflectors or other devices, to make them more readily visible on the screens of radar receivers.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT or TRADE AND INDUSTRY (THE EARL OF LIMERICK)

There is no requirement at present, although many vessels do so. Her Majesty's Government have assisted in drawing up a recommendation regarding the fitting of reflectors to small vessels when operating in international waters and adjacent coastal areas, which is being considered by the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organisation.
