HC Deb 25 October 1972 vol 843 cc322-3W
Miss Devlin

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he received a letter from the hon. Member for Mid-Ulster, dated 30th August, 1972, concerning the Ulster Defence Regiment; and if he is in a position to answer the questions asked.

Mr. David Howell

Yes. I wrote to the hon. Member on 20th October.

Miss Devlin

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is the approximate number of self-loading rifles missing from Ulster Defence Regiment armouries in County Tyrone;

  1. (2) to what extent investigations into the loss of weapons from Ulster Defence Regiment armouries have implicated members of the Regiment in the disappearance of these weapons;
  2. (3) to what extent investigations into the loss of Ulster Defence Regiment weapons have uncovered collusion between individual members of the Ulster Defence Regiment and the Ulster Defence Association;
  3. (4) to what extent investigations into intimidation of Catholic families in the Coagh district, and the operation of illegal road-blocks in South Derry, have implicated members of the Ulster Defence Regiment.

Mr. David Howell

I have nothing to add to my letter of 20th October to the hon. Member.
