HC Deb 18 October 1972 vol 843 c83W
Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make compulsory the notification of all planning applications by a notice on the site in the manner required for planning inquiries.

Mr. Graham Page

I accept that there is scope for extending the posting of site notices to cases where ordinary persons would be affected by some substantial development near their homes, and I will bear this in mind when an opportunity for legislation occurs. But a universal requirement would be too sweeping and would inevitably lead to delay. I think that it would be desirable to leave a large measure of discretion with the local planning authorities.
