HC Deb 18 October 1972 vol 843 c81W
Mr. Parkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in view of his responsibility for office development, what estimate he has made as to how the rent per square foot for modern office accommodation on a prime site in Central London compares with rents for similar accommodation in the major European cities and in New York.

Mr. Peter Walker

Office rents in Paris are roughly the same as those for comparable premises in the West End; rents in Brussels and Amsterdam are about one-third of this; in Zurich and Frankfurt between one-third and one-half, and in New York about one-half. Rents for offices in the City are on average about one-third higher than those in the West End.
