HC Deb 17 October 1972 vol 843 cc55-6W
Q6. Miss Joan Hall

asked the Prime Minister if he will ensure that Yorkshire is included in the preparations to celebrate British entry into the European Economic Community.

Q8. Mr. Rost

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a further statement on the Government's arrangements to celebrate entry to the European Community.

The Prime Minister

Events to mark Britain's entry into the European Economic Community, known as "Fanfare for Europe", are being arranged by two Committees under the Chairmanship of Lord Goodman and Lord Mancroft. I understand that they intend to hold a joint Press conference on 24th October to describe their plans. The programme, which is to be published shortly, includes events in London and throughout the country, and a number will be in Yorkshire.

Q12. Mr. Redmond

asked the Prime Minister whether he remains satisfied with the co-ordination of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster over British entry into the European Economic Community in regard to smaller businesses; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

Yes. In our negotiations and discussions with the Communities the interests of smaller businesses are not overlooked. Matters which might concern small firms are specially considered by the Small Firms Division of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Q15. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether he will now seek to meet the Prime Minister of Norway and discuss matters pertaining to the Common Market.

The Prime Minister

I accepted an invitation from Mr. Bratteli to visit Norway in November. Since Mr. Bratteli's Government has resigned, the earlier arrangements will be reviewed with the new Prime Minister, after formation of his Government.
