§ Mr. MaudlingI have received this report. Measures are already in hand which should help to reduce the number of women who have to be remanded in custody for reports, and various provisions in the Criminal Justice Bill are intended for women as well as men. But we must provide better conditions than exist at present for those women for whom the courts consider there is no satisfactory alternative to custody. This is the purpose of the rebuilding programme at Holloway.
