HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c397W
Mr. Gwynoro Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the number of and list the magistrates' court hearings in Wales where defendants accused of non-payment of television licences have been granted an absolute discharge in 1972 to date; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carlisle

I understand that since 1st January, 1972, 10 defendants convicted of the unlicensed use of a television set have been granted absolute discharges by magistrates' courts in Wales. The cases were dealt with by the courts at Whitland, Carmarthenshire; Talybont, Cardiganshire; Cardiff (two cases); and Bangor (six cases).
