HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 cc397-8W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many claims were submitted by or on behalf of police officers to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board in the last year for which figures are available; and how this figure compares with those for each of each preceding year.

Mr. Carlisle

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board does not keep statistics of applications on this basis. The number of cases where either a final award was made to a police officer in respect of injury sustained while on duty, or no award was made only because the injury was one for which compensation of less than £50 would have been awarded, in each of the full financial years since the board's establishment is as follows:

1965–66 221
1966–67 307
1967–68 505
1968–69 704
1969–70 851
1970–71 872
1971–72 1,518
