HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 c367W
27. Mr. Gourlay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the larger areas covered by the new district and regional authorities envisaged in the new local government structure, he has reached a decision on the desirability of employees below the rank of chief officials being eligible for election to such authorities, when the new structure becomes operative.

Mr. Younger

We have considered carefully the question of council employees serving as councillors and have concluded that the existing law on this matter should stand.
